Protect your most valuable asset this harvest: your crew.

Silage harvest is one of the busiest and most hazardous times of the year. With heavy equipment, steep slopes, and long hours, safety can’t take a back seat. Use this quick checklist to keep your crew safe from start to finish.

⚠️ Around Bunkers & Piles

  • Pose clear warning signs near bunkers or piles to prevent accidents
  • No unauthorized foot traffic—limit access to essential personnel only
  • Keep a 3:1 run-to-rise slope or gentler to avoid collapses
  • If placing tires near the edge, always face the wall for stability

Silage safety signs are designed to be seen—and save lives. Post them near bunkers or piles this harvest to remind everyone on site of the hazards and keep safety top of mind.

👷‍♂️ On the Ground

  • Require high-visibility clothing for anyone working near silage operations
  • Make eye contact with equipment operators before approaching
  • Stay out of blind spots at all times

🚜 On the Road

  • Inspect lights, turn signals, and SMV signs before transport
  • Ensure rollover protection systems are in place for tractors

⏳ Managing Fatigue

  • Rotate shifts to prevent exhaustion in equipment operators
  • Schedule breaks—alertness is a safety tool, too

✅ Final Word

Your silage pile isn’t your most valuable asset—your people are. This harvest season, put safety in the driver’s seat and make sure everyone gets home at the end of the day.
